Solomon Grundy, Born on a Monday, Christened on Tuesday, Married on Wednesday, Took ill on Thursday, Worse on Friday, Died on Saturday, Buried on Sunday. This is the end Of Solomon Grundy.
The day-counting rhyme 'Solomon Grundy' was first published in 1842 in The Nursery Rhymes of England; Collected chiefly from Oral Tradition, compiled by James Orchard Halliwell. This collection was the first actual attempt to gather together the rhymes that nurses had been using to entertain children for hundreds of years, and it sparked the modern interest in the rhymes as a teaching tool for kids. My only real annoyance is that Halliwell didn't explain anything about where or when he collected the rhymes in his first book! So, essentially, you now know all that is known about the rhyme; but I will add that there are a few other day-counting rhymes (which I'll add someday), and that this rhyme gave the name to the zombie-esque villain originally seen in DC Comics' Batman series.
