The "each uisge" (it's Gaellic, so good luck pronouncing it) is a shape changing water monster reported in legends from Ireland and Scotland. Roughly speaking, they typically took a human like shape (though sometimes accidentally leaving a horselike feature, such a hooves for feet), and would come ashore to court young ladies. No one can say if these relationships ever work out, for any female who agrees (and a few who don't) to this courtship end up being whisked away underwater to never be seen again. I drew one of these creatures coming out of the water and transforming as it approaches a small festivity in the nearby village.
I was originally giving this monster it's own section in the book, so it needed a full page illustration... but as I researched more, it became clear that the 'each uisge' was very much related to tales of another monster reported in Scotland called a Kelpy. I eventually combined the two creatures into one longer section titled 'Water Horses,' and so didn't need the extra full page illustration.
